The Brown-Duffy Memorial Endowed Maintenance Scholarship Fund

Employees of the Maintenance Department of The University of Alabama have established the Brown-Duffy Memorial Endowed Maintenance Scholarship fund.  Created to honor appropriately the memory of the late Henry Brown and Jerone Duffy, both former Maintenance Department employees, and to promote the education of deserving Maintenance Department employees, their dependents, grandchildren, and future descendants who attend the University of Alabama.

Coliseum Maintenance

The Athletic Maintenance Operations staff provides custodial and support services, event setup, and event staffing at Coleman Coliseum, the Sam Bailey Track Stadium, and other UA facilities.

Elevator Maintenance

The Elevator Maintenance staff provides full-service preventative and predictive maintenance for all vertical transportation units’ electrical and mechanical operations, including elevators, wheelchair lifts, escalators, and all vertical lifts on campus.

Safety and Functionality—ensure university-owned vertical transportation is safe and functional.

Preventative maintenance—perform routine scheduled maintenance and adjustments.

Annual Testing—thoroughly check all components for proper function and record test results.

Annual Inspections—arrange for each unit to be inspected by an official state inspector.

Repairs—fix or replace worn out or malfunctioning components.

Upgrades—install new components such as controllers, door equipment, and fixtures (i.e., car and hall operating panels, position indicators, etc.).

Entrapment Rescue—promptly arrive to safely assist passengers off a stalled elevator.

Responsiveness—provide 24/7 operations.

Event Support—provide technicians for standby at events such as football games and graduations.

Training and Certification—administer our UA Elevator Apprenticeship Program through the National Association of Elevator Contractors, where our apprentices earn their certification as elevator technicians and then continue earning required annual continuing education units.

Building Maintenance

The Building Maintenance Department includes general maintenance, pest control, Renovation Team, and Upholstery Shop. Services cover interior finishes, furniture repair, building envelope, cabinetry, and internal project delivery. To request an estimate or help planning an upcoming project, submit a work order through customer service. An office staff member or a lead tradesperson will meet with you to determine the best solution for any unique or challenging opportunity.

Carpentry – general maintenance on ceilings, walls, furniture, doors, glass, and preventative maintenance

Painting – sheetrock patching, painting, graphics, and caulking including spray booth applications

Flooring – installation and maintenance of carpet, tile, vinyl, and rubber flooring systems

Roofing – preventative maintenance and repairs to all roofing systems

Building Envelope – masonry, concrete installation and repair, and exterior waterproofing

Cabinet Shop – custom millwork and cabinetry for maintenance and project services

Renovation Team – dedicated tradesmen to deliver building enhancements with internal services


HVAC Maintenance

The Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Department operates and maintains all equipment and systems required to heat and cool the campus buildings. It also maintains refrigerators, freezers, ice makers, and other refrigeration equipment. The HVAC Department also operates and maintains the Central Thermal Water Energy Plants.
